A beekeeper I know posed this question to me in an email today and I'm not sure what to tell him......."As I hope to dust thoroly again this year it says to apply every 4-5 days 3 times. I've heard it said to apply about every 10, "at least 10 days apart". Also the package advises removing combs that may contain stored oxytet food ( that's the implication ) . Is this realy necessary and practical ? I cannot imagine any beekeeper doing this, unless somehow some some organic status may be retained, or how would one suspect which frames to take except geuss and what would one do with them. no one wants tainted honey." ........any opinions?

Antibiotics in Honey
Just for info - I received a letter from one one the packers that I deal with here in France.
It states following a general but comprehensive survey of antibiotic residues in honey that they have dealt with during 2002, the levels of antibiotic found will no doubt result in honey being condemned in the future.
This will be the result of new levels being set by the European Union.
They also suggest that as far as they are concerned, residues are present for 4 to 6 months after treatment.
That means any colony treated in spring will not be able to produce a crop from the Canola that produces nectar during the month of April!
What this will mean for exporters sending honey into Europe in the future - will depend in the residue levels that will be accepted.

Oxytet
Allen,
Europe is a big place!
Looking in my files, I have used oxytet (5 years ago, no need since)
10g of formulation (5% active material) mixed with 390g of icing sugar.
Therefore
20g gives 0.5g - the required dose
Applied 3 times at 7 day interval
Total - 1.5g active material per hive
