Today I fly south. went back to sleep. Next thing I knew, the alarm 5. I got up. My mouth was dry again. I started snoring recently. Hope that stops with some weight loss. Weight is 232.6., down a pound since yesterday. BG is 6.2, back to my normal. BP is 131/86 64. I have 2 -1/4 hours before I should leave. It is 8.7 out and 21.3 in here. Visibility for driving looks good. I was ready right on time. I was a bit worried because I had assumed my flight was at 10:40, but checked and it was at 10:15. I left the van at Skyview and the shuttle dropped me at YYC door 16 not long after. The flight was uneventful, as was customs. I ducked the line and ran around the back side and there was no waiting either place. Now I am sitting outside waiting for the EcoBaja shuttle. With any luck, I'll be on Baja Magic before dark. The driver came on time and I asked to viajar al frento. That is a much better ride than in the back. These vans have a soft front suspension but the rear is spring like a truck, which basically this is. The driver dropped me at the marina and now I am on board Baja Magic. BM seems small and dark after my time on Corus and being at The Old Schoolhouse. * * * * * * I had not had anything to eat since breakfast at 5:00 AM so I had a good start on a fast but I decided when I opened the fridge and saw eggs there that I'm not going to fast today. I made a small omelette and right now I am defrosting the fridge and getting ready to set up the air conditioner. The boat is fairly clean outside after all the rain but the interior is a mess because I stowed everything in here and then my friends put other things in here when there was a threat of a hurricane. Should I go grocery shopping tonight? There is still time. * * * * * * I set up the air conditioner. It was 33.3 degrees in here and that is too hot for sleeping. At 9:30 , I suddenly felt very tired and went to bed . Current weather at the Old Schoolhouse weather station. I slept well and woke at 6:30, dozed until 7, and got up. It's 27.3 in here and 25 outside. I weigh 230.2. BG is 6.0. BP reads 123/78 64
I'm still getting settled in. I have a lot of unpacking to do today, and sorting. Cristy said she will be by after yoga at 9:30. It will be really
good to see her again. It has been
58 days.
I did, and there is nothing in sight. At eight there was no net on the VHF, so I wondered. Was the time on my phone wrong? It had been correct in San Jose del Cabos. At least the shuttle ran on that schedule. My ship's clock disagreed and had been correct when i left in July. I found out when the phone said 9:00. The net came on and it seems I was on the wrong time. I had been using the Mexican phone at SJD but it ran out of battery shut down overnight. When i revived it, I found that my Canadian phone had been on Alberta Time and changed it. So my times above were off by an hour.

Allen. I wondered if you had heard of these. A doctor my wife works with, also not diabetic, was wearing one (or a similar one) at work. She told my wife she only planned to keep it for a couple of months, but she was wearing it to see what made her blood sugar spike in real time. She said that so far it largely validated what she knew, but that alcohol especially kicked up the sugars.
There is a good video here that I started on, but will finish later. Sounds like a great way to find out how different foods affect me. Of course, this current diet is working but I recall that last time I did this I started getting leg cramps at night after a month. I am feeling a bit rushed since I am expecting Cristy at 9:30. * * * * * * Cristy came by and had a visit. Her truck blew a rad hose yesterday on the way to Muertos. Her air conditioner quit and so did her hot water tank. She has the gas tank for my outboard, so that is a relief. I was wondering where it was. I need to do some shopping. I have only tree eggs and cans of vegetables and bags of dried beans. And, maybe I'll take the boat out for a spin. I could anchor for the night, out by the Magote, swim, and sleep under the stars. I was reviewing my posts and see this:
I had indicated a hearing issue and forgotten that I could have pre-boarded. * * * * * * I'm feeling pretty good today. I didn't have any congestion last night or the night before so I assume that has to do with carbohydrates as much as anything. I ate the last three eggs for lunch and summoned DiDi. At first the prices seemed reasonable and the first car had
almost arrived when it disappeared on the app. I summoned a second
one but cancelled it due to the long arrival time. Then I
decided to use iRider. iRider got me a car for 49 pesos and it got
me to Chedraui. I had heard someone asking for a defibrillator on the VHF at about 10:00 o'clock this morning but never heard any more about it so I was surprised to find a body lying there in the with people around heat four hours later.
At any rate, as got back to the boat I saw Gary and Jonathan sitting on the bench by the ramp gate. They said it is Francisco, the car washing guy, and since he was right outside the restaurant door, he must have eaten at the restaurant and that must have killed him. Gallows humour. So things haven't changed that much.
I have most of the materials and I'm pricing vinyl tape right now. When I left home , I was looking at a roll on the counter and wondering if I should bring it and now I know I should have. The price down here is three times what I paid in Canada and it takes a week to come. * * * * * * It's 3:25 and I really don't have any excuse not to tidy up and organize before supper time. There aren't any activities organized tonight so I'm on my own unless I go to the bar to see who's around. Maybe I should go to Capuchino. There is always something happening there. The program varies a lot from good old rock and roll to open mic and anything else, including drag. It is 333.3 in here even with the A/C and right about now I'm thinking I should have a siesta. The alternative is to make a pot of coffee, so I am making coffee.
Speaking of heat prostration I think I told this story here before, but years ago I had a young fellow working for me and I sent him north about 40 miles to work on a bee yard. It was a typical hot summer day. Sometime after lunch I got a phone call saying he was passing out so I drove up and took him to the Red Deer Hospital which was another 30 miles away. He seemed drowsy and flushed. The air conditioning wasn't working and, as we drove, sometimes I opened the windows and sometimes I closed them. When the windows were open he woke up but when I closed them and I got warmer in the cab he started to pass out again. I got him to the hospital and the doctor looked at him and said he had a bee sting allergy.
I knew, of course, that it wasn't bee sting. It was heat but you really have to wonder about some of these doctors. Anyhow they got him resuscitated and I drove them back to Swalwell. Along the way I mentioned the importance of salt supplementation when working in hot conditions and learned that he was on a salt-free diet. Of course that was the reason he fainted. There wasn't any particular reason for eschewing salt. it was just one of those fad things. What a dummy!
* * * * * * Well, I didn't do much. I cooked some chicken legs for supper, played a little spider, and am watching Patterns, a 1956 B&W movie. I think colour reduced the impact of films. 9:18 - 120/66 62 10:00 -110/65 64 Time for bed? It is 10:20 and I'm off to bed. * * * * * *

I slept fitfully and got up at 4:40. That calculates to a little over six hours asleep. With no booze and no carbs, seems I need less sleep. It's 27.0 in here and 24 outside. I weigh 233.8. BG is 5.7. BP reads 131/78 76
At 7:30, I went for drinking water. I'm using the free marina RO water now. It has higher solids, but the tienda stuff was getting too costly. I'm mounting the outboard now. It is still 'cool' now, at 27 degrees and will only get hotter, until the peak at 1 PM. Cristy and I walked to Marina Cortez for breakfast and walked back after. He truck is overheating and so is at the mechanic's. She is riding Uber.
On returning, I started the outboard and am getting ready to go try the route to the Magote Dunes on the inside. The tides look somewhat similar, with a lower low tide and lower high tide, so the outside is out of the question. Can I go on the inside today? I'll ask Navionics.
At 10AM, after walking back and starting the outboard BP is 155/90 95 and 142/76 98.
I thought to check the alternator belt before going and found it was burnt, so I replaced it. I cast off and headed down to the south, and as I approached shallow water on the chart I noticed that my depth sounder was not working. I wasn't really willing to go into shallow areas without a working depth sounder so I turned back and decided to go out and snorkel up at Isla San Rafaelito. I arrived at Isla San Rafaelito and I anchored, at least I thought I anchored but I found that I was drifting and in testing the anchor I managed to get the dinghy painter hooked on the prop. At that point I was drifting away from the island into open water
so I got out my snorkel gear and my weight belt, tied myself to the
boat and jumped in. I lit the barbecue and grilled some of the beef I bought yesterday. It was a curious sort of a cut. It was the size of a steak, good big blade steak, but sliced very thin. It grilled up well After supper I dove in to cool down. The water hardly cooled me,
but the breeze did when I got out.
8:06 -120/77 Pulse 94. Pulse has been high all day. I could not find anything on the web that listed a suddenly higher pulse and normal BP. What I found also listed swollen feet and/or weakness as well and I am obviously not weak today. Dehydration was listed so I drank more salt water, took an aspirin, then drank two more glasses of water. What is different? The meat/egg/cheese diet, the heat, and drinking lots of Topo Chico. At 8:12 - 129/73 100. Somethingis going on. I started watching The Man from U.N.C.L.E but it was too stupid for words. I think I'll go to bed up in the cockpit and see if I wake in the morning. No, wait. I brought that little EKG thingy. I'm charging it up. 8:57 122/73 91. The EKG did not find anything abnormal, but the pulse is down to 91 now, so maybe I'll drink more water. I drank 3 tall glasses a while ago and so far it is not showing up in my bladder. I drank another glass and that makes four in the past fifteen minutes. The boat battery is down to 47%. Time for bed. * * * * * *

I really do not know how much sleep I got. I was up and down a few times. At first I slept in the cockpit but then it got windy so I went below. At one point I got up and checked my blood pressure and went back to bed. Overall, I slept pretty well. The wind is blowing at about eight knots from the southeast. That will make my trip back to La Paz a little more difficult. I suppose I could have sailed back last night on the northeast wind but I didn't. It is 5 and the day is brightening It's 28.8 and 47% RH in here and the same outside. For the record: Yesterday: It seems that drinking water and maybe the salt fixed the high pulse. Interesting. Today: At 6:20, BP is 133/76 61 and BG is 5.5. Battery is 46%. 39 after coffee.
Expected high today is 38. That is body temperature. Here is my route for the day. At 647, solar is making 2 amps. Battery is at 38%.
The winds should die around noon and then favour me for my return. Maybe I should snorkel along the way? I have a lot of tidying to do onboard, too.
I spent over two hours learning that the alternator belt is the wrong one. This is a brand new belt and it is frayed after two hours. Will it survive the load charging the batteries on the way home? Hope so. It should be wider. I ordered several in hopes that one may be correct. It is only 10:14 and I am itching to get going. The winds are dropping but still blowing from the south.
Batteries are at 36%. Solar is making 25 amps. 138/76 63. I must have been dehydrated yesterday I thought that I had fixed the depth sounder but it is not working again today. I suspect the sender. It is one and the depth sounder still does not work. Should I chance it without? Navionics says I can and the tide is rising so if I keep a track, I can always back out. I decided, yes, and when I went up to go, the depth gauge was working. I had a swim and then headed back. The water is 30 degrees C and 92 F. the trip back to La Paz was routine. I raised sail in the channel and crossed over at the bifurcation buoy, then continued down the north channel. I had been down there in the dinghy but never with the big boat so it was an interesting trip. The channel is quite deep and wide and well marked. At the south
end the two channels join so I jogged over into the main channel and
followed it right down to where it shallowed for a small distance
and then continued on. The least depth depth I saw was six feet
under the keel and we have three feet of Tide so at low tide that
section would be shallow but passable. I could have continued in but I did not see the point. I think I
proved I can get here so I turned around, went out a little deeper,
and anchored. I'll be here for the night
* * * * * * I made supper of the other half of the pound of hamburger from lunch but this time I seasoned it and that made a huge difference. The plain burger patty at lunch was not particularly exciting. * * * * * * After the two hours motoring, batteries are at 67% I'm making sure I drink lots of water and I suppose I should
check my pulse. It definitely is hot in here at 34.3 degrees.
BP measures 141/77. Pulse 77. I measured again and got, surprisingly, exactly the same readings. Next, I drank two tall glasses of water. I have flies in here and they seem to follow me. It occurred to me just now that they must be coming out of the garbage. It is 6:24 and sunset, but it is still light out. I could have made it back to La Paz easily, but why? I'll go in the morning.
I tried one tonight and was shocked to see that my strip turned dark brown. That indicates a very high ketone level, higher than necessary. If true, that is gratifying. I wondered if they are still good and the can says expiry is 2023/03/07, so they should still be good. I'm sure they don't go bad the day after. * * * * * *
I'm watching the app and seeing the distance increment up and wondering if we are dragging anchor. Rocna anchors don't usually drag, but it all depends on the bottom. Soft mud may not hold well. Depth is still 6.9 under the keel. We are going to drop three feet tonight so that does not leave much depth to spare. I went to bed around 11 but I was up a time or two including once when the alarm went off . I extended the allowable distance and check the depth and went back to sleep . I noticed today that I can feel a little sunburn on top of my head. * * * * * *

I got up at 5:37. Again, I really do not know how much sleep I got. I was up and down a few times, once when the alarm went off at midnight. The wind dropped sometime around two, so fears of dragging ended and I slept well. Before dawn, the tide dropped to where we had only a few feet of water and now, at 6, I see 3.8, but we must have dropped to 2.4.
It is 28.1 in here with 49% RH. I weigh 231.6 and BG is 5.9. My blood seemed very thin when I pricked my finger for the sample.
BG is 125/77. Pulse is 62. Batteries are at 36%.
I'll head back soon and charge the batteries at the dock and fill with water. At 7:05, suddenly the batteries say 23%. I had better start the engine. I am not sure how accurate the SmartGauge is short-term, but low is low. The 8AM VHF net was starting as I raised anchor and headed towards the channel to exit the lagoon. I arrived at the channel and turned SE, following my track coming in as far as the bifurcation buoy near the entrance to Fonatur where I had joined this channel from the north channel when I was coming in. At that point I continued on in the same channel almost to the hotels on the shore, then turned 20 degrees port to cross the shallow section. The rest of the passage was along the shore and routine.
I arrived at Marina de la Paz just after 9:00 o'clock, made a perfect docking, tied up, and plugged in the power cord.
By then I was sweating profusely even though it's only 32 degrees in here so I immediately set up the air conditioning.
I also have major clean up to do on the boat to get
ready to go this afternoon at four. Seeing as we plan to
anchor out overnight, I have to organize the forward cabin for her,
even though if it's too hot in the cabins we may decide to sleep up
top on the benches, and I expect that will be the case. If so, we'll
have to put in the dodger windows because it gets windy early in the
night and the breeze makes sleeping uncomfortable without a
windbreak. I tidied the boat and filled the water tanks. One had been blocked, so I backflushed the lines to both and the flow is much better. I had to make a gasket for one of the valves. At 2:42 - 127/77 Pulse is 104. It must be the heat. I drank plenty of water and some with salt. I decided to drink one Tecate Red and see what happens. Apparently it contains 12carbs. That went down well. 159/85 101 At two, the batteries are at 100%. Cristy says she will be here 4ish. So, I drank the other two remaining beers and other than being relaxed, no effect 148/84 96. Cristy should be here in the next while and we will head out for the Dunes. She arrived at four and we set out. The wind favoured us and we sailed until we exited the channel at which point we were going upwind and started the engine. We motored towards the dunes and the depths grew progressively shallower. I was distracted for a minute and we ran aground. We had had six feet under the keel moments before but now we were stuck. The bottom is soft mud or sand so I was able to pivot and motor off. We went a few hundred yards out and anchored, then took the dinghy to shore. We beached the dinghy and climbed the steep dunes to where Monse and her friends were. It was quite a climb and I realized I was drunk.
The sand on the dunes are dark grey to black. This is in contrast to the beaches to the east and west which are tan to off-white. At the top, Monse was posing in a winged costume and her friends were shooting pictures. I gather she has an Internet following. We watched for a while and then Cristy decided to walk down the dunes to the north shore. I had been there before by boat, anchoring along this shore several times. I followed, but was still a bit unsteady in the soft sand. Cristy likes to give advice and said I was out of shape from lack of exercise. I said it was her whiskey that made me weak. Once at the beach, I walked out chest deep. The water these days is almost body temperature. We started back, and by then I was recovering and climbed straight up the banks. Cristy went around an easier route and arrived at the top well after me. As the sun went down, I said we should head back while we could still see. Once again, Cristy stalled and we found ourselves motoring out in the total dark and unable to see our boat against the backdrop of city lights in the distance. Baja Magic was anchored about a half-mile out from the beach due to depths. fortunately I have automatic solar lights on deck to keep pangas from hitting me in the dark. The anchor light is high up and is often hard to see on a starry night. Once we were out far enough and could look towards the dark shore, we spotted BM and headed over. Once on board, we had a good long swim. It was calm and pleasant. After, Cristy decided to sleep up top and I went below to my cabin. We were far enough out and in deep enough water that there was no worry about dragging.
Disclaimer Current weather at the Old Schoolhouse weather station. La Paz, Baja California Sur | Sun and Moon |Tides | 10 Day Weather Yesterday's Post | Go back a year | Go back two years.
I got up at 5:55. Again, I really do not know how much sleep I got. I was up and down a few times when Cristy got up to use the facilities and once when she wanted a blanket. She was sleeping in the cockpit. I was in my cabin. We should have put up the dodger window but it was calm when we went to bed. It got breezy later. At 7:34, Cristy is still sleeping. It is 28.0 and 50% RH today. My BG is 4.5!!! I cannot weigh due to boat motion. BP is 152/81 66 The net came on at eight and Cristy got up. She had not slept well until the final hours. I have had breakfast but she has not. She had said she wants to be back in La Paz around ten, so we have an hour until we leave.
We didn't leave at 9. We didn't leave at 10, but we did leave around 10:30 and headed for the channel leading back to La Paz. Before we reached the channel, suddenly I noticed a change in the engine sound and saw that it was overheating. I stopped it immediately and checked the alternator belt, and sure enough, it had burned up -- again. Fortunately I had a spare and I put it on and we resumed our trip back to town. Halfway there I was able to raise sail, and we
sailed back to the marina, dropped the sail, raised the dinghy, and
motored in to the dock.
We had arrived at 4 minutes to noon, and by one o'clock I was feeling very tired. I had carnitas for lunch, then lay down for a nap. I had a good sleep and then got up and did some research, trying to find out where to buy a high quality belt and one that is wider than what we have been using.
I wound up sending messages to the manufacturer to try to find who sells them in town. I am totally uninspired today. At 5:25 - 118/67 67. I am delighted that my repairs on the water system worked so well. I had reserved celebration until they worked for a full day, but the taps now work perfectly.
I just realised it is Friday, and I assume that Wayne will be playing at Estrella tonight. Maybe I'll walk down, just to get out, but no booze for me. Otherwise I'll pay solitaire and watch a movie. I found a portable hard drive with a lot of movies I had forgotten and brought it along. Wayne starts at six and it is six now, so maybe not.
I remembered that my brother moved Carpe Diem to the Kawarthas so I had to change the ads. That took quite a while and has been my evening project. I went to bed at 9:15. * * * * * *

I got up at 4:58. I'm feeling fine but my fingers have been stiff in the morning the last two days. It seems tat drinking that beer and whiskey was a bad idea. It's 26.4 degrees and 34% RH in here, and 24 outside. BP reads 137/80 61. BG is 5.4. I can't find where I put the scale when tidying. * * * * * * I found it while getting dressed to go to coffee. I went to coffee, bought tickets for tonight's supper, and socialized a bit, then came back down to the boat. I am not inspired today. I'll tidy a bit more and maybe go shopping. We'll see. Linda just called on the VHF that someone has 20 litres of diesel to sell. I decided to have a nap at noon. No sooner did I lie down when I got a VHF call to go to get the diesel. I got up and then Cristy called and asked if I wanted to go for lunch. I went up and met the diesel guy. Everyone was dubious about him but he checked out and I bought the fuel. Then Cristy and I went to the Rancho Viejo for lunch. I had eaten but had a Topo Chico when she ate. She was still annoyed about a customer who kept changing the schedule, then wanted the job done instantly. I was happy to be away from the Marina since the power was to be off all afternoon, but it was on when I got back and Neil said the outage is over. I told Linda since she was concerned about power for cooking and lights at the super tonight which is planned for the clubhouse patio. I am completely uninspired today. I started and Indiana Jones movie and then decided to listen to "Your Province, Your Premier". At four-thirty I'll go up to the clubhouse. I went up and had some pork, then had nothing to do and was thinking I'd leave, but decided to relieve one of the servers so she could eat. That proved to be fun. I decided to have a glass of red wine, then several more. After the line dwindled to zero, I took some more of the pulled pork and chose a table by myself, not that I was avoiding people, but others had their own people around. Shortly after, Lyn came over, then Corrine , then Sue. I knew Corrine is Canadian from the west coast, but it turned out that Lyn is from the Shuswap, so I got to talk about the fires and the big bust we witnessed over a decade ago at Seymour Arm. They left, Corrine to drive someone somewhere, and Lyn to take her turn at the mic, playing music for the diners. I was left alone again so Bob came by and we had a visit. He says there is a new Rotary Club starting in town that I might like. I had looked at the other one and they had invited me to join, but they seemed to be too much about meetings. I like action. At the end we cleaned up and I returned to Baja Magic, watched a bit of an Indiana Jones movie, then went to bed around 9:30 * * * * * *

I woke at 1:30 and could not get back to sleep, so I stayed up for two hours and had breakfast. I know better than to drink red wine. It almost always does this. I went back to bed around four and got up at 6:50. It's 27.1 degrees and 36% RH in here, and 25 and 56% outside. BP reads 137/80 61. BG is 5.9. I am tired and uninspired and have a bit of the dire rear today. If I needed to confirm that I am going to have to avoid drinking this is it. Two days in a row of being useless and unmotivated, just waiting for the day to end has to stop. I am not hung over, and not sore in any way, just brain-dead. I went out and siphoned the diesel into the tank so I could return the jug. As the flow started, I saw a few small black specs and a very small water bubble and then clear diesel in the clear siphon line. It is not unusual to have a drop or two of water and a spec, but I was careful not to put the hose to the bottom corner because if there is bad stuff in the jerry can, that is where it will be. Diesel is murky so I could not see the bottom, but when most was siphoned, I could see some water and black specs below the good diesel, so I stopped when the diesel was mostly transferred and dumped the rest. Daniel, the guy who sold it came by for the jug and was hoping for a job, but I said no. I was wondering how smart I was buying the diesel in the first place. Being bored, posted this to BEE-L and got quite a bit of blowback. Finally I wrote this:
I'd like to thank those who offered considered and informed
insights into the question and at the same time express
disappointment in the automatic and sometime impolite rejection
by others. I particularly was offended by the abusive comments
directed to moderators. I thought we were better than this.
I examined the references offered in the last message, somewhat superficially I admit because the topic is of only slight interest to me, but noticed that, as so often the case, they do not actually prove what is suggested. They do not show that geoengineering has not been happening and is not happening, and in fact one discusses the concerns. Also, an international agreement does not necessarily mean that the parties will abide by it, either, but just hope that it hinders competing adversaries, and they continue to experiment but be more circumspect going forward. It is easy to debunk some of the claims, but it is much more difficult to debunk others. Moreover, it is said that it is impossible to prove a negative. That is not universally true but could be true in this case. At any rate I offered this as an interesting topic that has implications for bees and beekeepers since weather modification or attempts at climate modification will always be a concern for beekeepers. Even the crude weather mod of the last century appeared to put previously successful beekeepers out of business or forced them to move. I was pretty sure it cost me money and although it may have saved some of my neighbours' crops from hail, it also saved them from badly needed rain. Interestingly, this topic was a Rorschach test for readers and revealed how some people feel much faster than they think and that ad hominem shortcuts allow them to discount ideas without so much as a moment's thought. Again, I thought we were better than this and it makes me wonder if this list has outlived its usefulness. I know Aaron asked me annually of it was time to 'stick a fork in it'. Is it? I'll be interested in this topic in future because, although, there is lots of speculation and misunderstanding, where there is smoke there is fire and where there is a tempting opportunity to meddle, someone will. At 5:31, BP is 122/70. Pulse is 62. BG is 5.1 7:32 - 115/71 65 I barbecued a blade steak for supper. It was good, but tough. A lot of beef here is tough. I went to bed at eight. * * * * * *

I got up at 4:30. Today I make coffee at the clubhouse It's 27.3 degrees and 34% RH in here, and 25 and 69% outside. BP reads 133/77 62. BG is 5.7. I weigh 229.0. I am more inspired today. I did coffee from 9:30 to 10:30 and returned. I always pour out coffee at the end and I like cold coffee, so I brought some back to BM in an empty coffee can, but when I tasted it, it had picked up a taste for the can. I assume the can coating was dissolved by the hot coffee, so I threw it out. I had a half steak for lunch and then had a nap. I am still not very inspired. 228 - 112/71 63 I'm closing browser tabs and several glaucoma tabs have been open a while. This one is intriguing: “I have patients saying, ‘My other doctors are thrilled that
I have low blo:od pressure.’ For me, that’s no cause for
celebration because once it gets low we know the risk of
glaucoma really starts to rise,” said Dr. Piltz-Seymour. “The
medical community is really striving for very, very low blood
pressures. And there’s a risk in that.” Preliminary Approaches This was another mostly wasted day. Other than coffee, I stayed in and did a few desk jobs and had a nap.
I watched a Nicholas Cage movie, Stolen. It was okay. Preposterous, but okay. I then started on Rage, but decided I had enough and quit for the day. I hope my ambition is back tomorrow. I'm off to bed at 9:15. * * * * * *
Hard times create strong men, strong men create good times, SC Senate Hearing - Dr. Janci Lindsay

I got up at 5:35. Today I make coffee at the clubhouse again, then I am free. I may go out and anchor. We'll see, but first I'll need groceries. It's 26.5 degrees and 35% RH in here, and 24 and 51% outside. At night, the air-conditioning mostly keeps the humidity down so I can sleep. BP reads 132/80. Pulse is 69. BG is 6.2. I weigh 231.0.
We'll see if I am more inspired today. I have felt lobotomized since Saturday night. I have had things to do, but no impetus. I have several business emails to write and I hate the thought. Allen, I think you beat yourself up sometimes. At 77 you are a lot busier, with more varied interests, than men 10 years younger than yourself. I remember that you have mentioned that you meditate now and
then - perhaps that would help you gain some perspective? * * * * * * Thanks. As for meditation, that is a good idea. I have had trouble meditating lately but should make a point of setting aside undisturbed time. My mother was driving to Florida from Ontario into her nineties. My dad dropped dead at 65, so comparing myself to others of any age is tricky and IMO generally a bad idea. I am unique -- just like everyone else. Unfortunately that is usually forgotten and there is a lot of subtle and overt pressure to conform to the average. The scatter graph of any characteristic is far more instructive than the trend line. There are standard deviations from that regression and there are outliers. Our society tends to generalize and assume averages are more than a vague centreline median prediction. Individuals fall far above or below that imaginary line. How can we ever know in advance which we are? Nevertheless, governments and medicine assume we are or should all be on that imaginary line and treat us that way. If I want to compare, should I compare to the average, or to the best? I suppose it depends on why I am comparing. Do I want inspiration or mere reassurance? Well, it is 8:22, and I spent the morning until now reading and writing when this is the time of day to be outside before the heat. So, I'll go for drinking water. Wait, maybe I won't. The water in Baja Magic's tanks is from the same potable water source that that fill into jugs and carry from shore now that I decided the tienda water is getting expensive. The marina water is effectively as good. so maybe I'll not use a jug anymore until I go somewhere where I don't trust the water, like La Cruz de Huanacaxtle. That is easy. Next, I go up and make coffee for the crowd. I need something to carry the throw-away coffee in. What do I have? The can did not work out. I went up and made coffee. We had about twenty folks. Cristy came by and wants to go swimming tonight. I was going to go out to anchor, but agreed to do that. After coffee, I came down to the boat and got ready to go to Chedraui. I called DiDi and arrived at Chedraui around noon. After, I rode home again and put the food away. I tasted the tap water and it has a slight plastic taste so maybe I will reconsider carrying water. I got inspired and re-wrote the sailboat ad and then followed up on an ad for an outboard. I am probably going to buy it but it is in Wheatley, the boat is in Burleigh Falls, and I am in Mexico. Getting that decision made is an accomplishment. I raised the price of the boat by $2,000 to cover the cost. Well, this has been a better day. I got a few things done. Cristy texted that she could not come swimming and was very sad about it. I had stayed at the dock to be here, but it was not a hardship. I may go out tomorrow, though. I ran out of water in the forward tank and switched to the aft tank, but found it is blocked again. 8:40 - 118/69 65 Bed time. 10:45 * * * * * *

asks the question, is it politic? Vanity asks the question, is
it popular? But conscience asks the question, is it right? And there
comes a time when one must take a position that is neither safe, nor
politic, nor popular, but one must take it because it is right.”
