Are you are looking for bee information?

I'm losing interest in bees lately and bee-related posts are infrequent these days but at one time I was very involved in beekeeping. Just about every topic has been covered somewhere on this site some time or another. Your best bets for finding ideas are:

1.) check today's date in previous years     2.) visit the selected topics page
search this site for keywords.
              4.) visit BEE-L

Up at seven.  Two days until I leave for Vancouver.

I told you so
Only 6% Of 'COVID Deaths' From Only COVID

Over the weekend the Centers for Disease Control dropped a bombshell report on coronavirus/COVID deaths: of the approximately 165,000 "COVID deaths", less than ten thousand died from COVID.
The rest - a vast majority - had on average 2.6 serious additional diseases, with the addition in most cases of extreme advanced age.

Trump Just Went Full QAnon in a Fox News Interview

There is no shortage of yellow journalism these days. He did not go QAnon.  QAnon is something else and the association is simply a smear. What  he said will be borne out in time. Mark my words.  Although people will say this is crazy, all new ideas sound crazy. It smells like truth.  Frankly, IMO there is no other plausible explanation.  In a few months people will come to realize what he said is true.

At one time, I listened to CBC radio all day long but lately I only listen to the drive-time shows as they usually have interesting non-political local items.  Today I turned on The Current, which at one time was a balanced current events program and was shocked at the slanted coverage of Kenosha.  Kenosha has been destroyed by organized and deliberate mayhem. Trump is visiting, probably as much because he would be criticized if he did not but in doing so, his enemies, including our (sorry) state broadcaster try to frame this visit as opportunism. Although he has made some mistakes (who hasn't), I can't believe that everything he does is venal and evil..

Unless one looks for alternate news, one would think the democrats are simon-pure and not be aware that the major trouble spots are Democrat controlled and that the Democrat representatives and officials have been condoning and even openly explicitly and explicitly encouraging violence while crippling the police, refusing to prosecute, and turning their backs on egregious acts.  The vice-presidential openly candidate raised money to bail out dangerous criminals.

Trump Speaks During Discussion On 'Community Safety' In Kenosha

At the same time, the yellow press is misrepresenting what Trump says and does. It is shocking.  Fact is the guy talks funny.  That does not mean he thinks funny,  He just does not think in words, so the translation from thought to words is like a Chinglish instruction manual.  He likes the word, "incredible".

Past vaccine disasters show why rushing a coronavirus vaccine now would be 'colossally stupid'

I found all the sailboat parts and took both sailboats to Ruth P-S's so her grandkids could use them.  I promised to get together with them to rig the boats tomorrow so that they know what is what since there are riggings for three boats and only two actual boats.

No sense keeping the boats here.  I spent a lot of time on them in hopes my grandkids would use them but they were not interested.  I get all the sailing I want elsewhere.

At suppertime, I contacted Danny again about the van's air-conditioning.  It had lost charge again and I had bought a blocker kid from Amazon and although the A/C weather is almost over, I want to make sure the system does not sit empty as moisture gets into an unpressurized A/C system and destroys it over time.

I had tried texting Danny before but received no response, so I phoned and arranged to go up to install the blocking kit to block off the lines to the unit part which has leaks and is difficult to repair, and re-pressurize the system.

I went up at seven and we began the job.  This guy is amazing.  He disassembled the A/C lines, installed new O-rings, and one blocker, then we hit a problem.  The kit I had bought included a wrong part and that side could not be used.   We manufactured the missing part and finished the job.  By then it was nine. I thanked him and paid and drove home.  That is $350 I spent on this this year.

That A/C has cost me at least $500 in charging over the past few years, but a van without A/C is a greenhouse on wheels in summer. The heat is unbearable.

Wednesday September 2nd 2020

I slept until almost eight and got up to find a dull, overcast, cool day. Shortly after rain started.

Windy is about the best weather app for sailors and I use it a lot.  Although the free version is excellent and ad-free, I want to support them and so I subscribed today to the premium version and added an embedded weather animation and forecast above.

Wow! A minute ago it was dull and pouring and now the rain stopped and the sun is out.

I've given up trying to force myself to do anything.  All that does is make me nervous.  I just have to accept that no matter what i plan or whatever is on my list or however important it may seem, moment by moment am going to do what I am going to do.

Every day I make a list and then go do something else.

Today there are just two things I must do.  1.) help Ruth and family with the sailboats, and 2.) pack for tomorrow, and 3.) consult with MLE about plant watering.  I know, that is three.

Here we go again.  Be afraid, very afraid.

Now the sun is gone again and the wind is picking up.

I've given up on doing anything useful today.  I did wash the dishes, though.

In the afternoon I got a call from Sidney.  Cassiopeia has a windlass problem and also milky oil in the transmission.  He pumped it out and replaced it with fresh but that bears watching.

I spent some time with Omar on the phone troubleshooting the windlass and we were unable to resolve it so he will take it to a repair shop tomorrow. I priced a new one.  A windlass is important for raising all that anchor chain from the deeps.

After, I just sort of wasted the afternoon and after supper went to Ruth's to discuss the boats.

I'm just hanging around waiting to leave.  These space shifts are hard on me.  I just get nicely  settled in and adjusted, and it is time to jump again.  Oh, for the simple life!

Tomorrow, Granville Island by noon.

After a lifetime of watching people, I have come to understand that nobody has it all right. The experts are just like the rest of us, guessing with limited facts.  In fact, the more facts we gather the more confused we get.

We start off knowing a subject and the more we study, the less we know. That does not mean we don't have perspective and understanding, but that perspective shows us that what we know is only probable, if that.

I suppose if I just followed the mainstream, I might think differently, having been fed a steady stream of disinfected and filtered 'information' and opinion, but being an eclectic reader, I can see the seamy underside of the public narrative and all the discarded pieces of the story lying on the cutting room floor

Nobody knows, and if someone did, we would not believe him (her) for the blizzard of bald-faced lies that fly like flak around us from all directions

The run-up to the flotilla is taking time, too, with emails and calls.

Here is the plan:

Thursday September 3rd 2020

I woke at 0530 and got up.  I have to be out of here by nine-thirty and have the usual things to do, including emptying the fridge, turning off the furnace, taking out the trash, checking the yard, checking the alarms and cameras, etc..

By half-past noon, I should be at YVR and will either take the Skytrain or call for Uber and be on Corus by two.

I Took Uber and was at Granville by one-thirty.

I spent the afternoon waiting around and orienting.  A few showed up and we had the meeting at 6:30 in front of the office.

Afterwards most of my crew stayed aboard overnight.

Yellow Journalism

Yellow journalism and the yellow press are American terms for journalism and associated newspapers that present little or no legitimate well-researched news while instead using eye-catching headlines for increased sales. Techniques may include exaggerations of news events, scandal-mongering, or sensationalism. By extension, the term yellow journalism is used today as a pejorative to decry any journalism that treats news in an unprofessional or unethical fashion.

Tuesday September 8th 2020

It's 3 AM and I am up.  We were back by five yesterday, tidied up and said our good-byes. I went to bed at nine.

I slept a while, then woke around two and had a shower and washed some clothes.  Next, I sat down to catch up here.

The weekend has now passed and while on the flotilla I little felt like sitting down to write.  I was busy with my crew and just living life.

What a fabulous bunch!  I had crew of six widely varying ages and backgrounds and we all got along famously.  The other boat, Alegria was repaired in time and so we were a flotilla of two and Alegria's crew was equally gregarious and adventurous.

The captain/owner, Eberhard is a seasoned offshore sailor and a cool, laid back sort so we traveled independently, but met up at the end of the day each time.  One night we rafted the boats together and had a party.  Needless to say, covid was nor on anyone's mind.  All the distancing BS is impossible when sailing and even the more inclined to submit to the rules decided we were all a 'bubble' soon after boarding.

Here is our plan and although we kept mostly to it, of course we had to respond to conditions and to opportunities.

It's 3:30 and I am going back to bed.  We leave here at 0930.  The plan was for six, but we are told the boat needs to be dived for an underwater inspection.

More later...

It's later. 0839.  I'm up, it's sunny. the predictions are for no wind.  We'll see when we can leave.

0925: Amanda messaged she can't make it and Vijay has yet to show.  No diver either.  The passes are not running too fast today so we don't need to worry about timing the slack too closely, or at all if we are adventurous.

We finally left around ten and motored the entire way. Vijay was happy at the helm.  We went through Whaler Bay and stopped at Sturdies Bay dock to go ashore and explore, then did the same at Miners Bay.

We arrived at our dock at six, had a beer , then Vijay caught a cab for the ferry back.  I joined Colin's Zoom meeting at seven and went to bed around eight.

Wednesday September 9th 2020

I awoke on Corus after eight.  I had slept badly and finally resorted to Benadryl to get some sleep.  The cleaners showed up around ten and I packed and moved to Cassiopeia.  It is good to be home.

I have some maintenance to do on this boat before I leave on Friday.  I considered a number of possibilities including meeting up with Bruce and Günter in Vancouver and riding up, but that would be a chore and the car would be crowded.  I instead elected to take the ferry to Tsawwassen and fly Pacific Coastal Airlines to Powell River. taxi to town, have supper with Larry and sleep on a boat somewhere on the dock that night.

I unpacked and started looking at the windlass.  Then Omar cut me some wire but I needed connectors, so I launched my dinghy and motored over to Roberts Bay.  I chose the wrong beach, though and had a fair hike to Allbay and had to phone to ensure they would be there for a few minutes past the 5:30 closing.

I got the wire and connectors I need and returned.  I also got a oil filter for Corus but forgot to ask for a new kill switch for my outboard.

I had supper, then joined the Vancouver Bluewater Zoom meeting at seven.

I was in bed by ten
