It's not too late to change things. I'm sure your friends can find you a hive to play with if you really want one.

Seeing as it is your first year of no bees in almost 50 years, have you missed them? Or has playing on boats occupied your time adequately? Or do your thoughts still wander to the hive? You did take a pic of a few hives for your background image...

I don't see any swarms, but admit to not looking. After all this time, I don't really miss them and I wonder why.

I suppose the Mexican commitment together with instructing and skippering sailing, plus visiting Mom has run me short of time and I am hardly ever home.

Poor yields; I know Ontario had quite a delayed Spring, and then summer hit with weeks of hot weather. In my 10+ years in Sudbury, this was the first year I ran an A/C unit in my house. We had lots of heat, but things dried up, so if the hive growth didn't line up with the nectar flow, your hives didn't make much if anything. And now Apivar has become scarce; I had mine shipped in from Manitoba because the larger 50 packs couldn't be found in Ontario.

What do you get with prolonged warm weather; big brood nests. And what do big brood nests mean... lots of varroa.
