Honey

Unread post by Biermann »

Hello,

I thought to start placing honey color images here. Hopefully with a description of taste and origin (to best knowledge). Let me all know if you feel this is a duplication or not needed and I will remove it (perhaps by pm?).

2015 was 58 lbs, one hive, one late extraction, very creamy, stable well rounded clover aroma & taste, the honey I love and it will be my goal for years to come. Late extraction, because my centrifuge was not ready when it was needed. 15.8% honey

Extracted July 23rd 2016 from three hives by selecting by color and capping. Left is (to my believe) alfalfa/buckwheat, stronger aroma and taste, liquid, moisture 16.6%. Right alfalfa, very liquid, little aroma and taste, very, very liquid, 17.2% moisture.

I don't understand the poll question. Are you asking if the topic is helpful? If so, yes. Pretty well any sharing is helpful to someone and interesting to others.

On the topic of honey, though, I find it to be a big nuisance. It is sticky and heavy and plugs up my hives.

It interferes with my beekeeping.

Buckwheat honey was mentioned recently, and the best buckwheat honey looks like used axle oil and smells like a hog barn. It colour rates at over 100mm. I used to buy drums of 120mm from Manitoba. BW honey is wonderful on toast and makes an excellent dry mead.

Hi Allen,

You have one vote, either like it or not, nothing more to it.

The bees are like mad in the buckwheat. my wife loves BW honey, so will see how that goes. I got 14 acres and three hives.

Will see. Cheers, Joerg

Here's honey I just extracted this weekend - I believe it is a canola/alfalfa/clover honey but probably best I just say a wildflower honey.

That's what people do, but of course, neither alfalfa nor canola are wildflowers.

I highly suspect my homey is canola - as I was told it that it normally crystallizes fast... Can't wait to see what they have produced since then.
