I am glad for our cold in that I bet SHB and waxmoths would be a real PITA if it was warm all year long and constant vigilance would be required. I can't see them possibly thriving in my location with our hard dry ground. I am happy that I have not made their acquaintance and that I don't expect much of a problem when I do.

Re: SHB
I was putting Apivar in some hives today. We have had a very mild winter. I was seeing a few SHB in hives, hiding in burr comb on the tops of the frame bars. I don't recall ever seeing SHB that overwintered before. Usually it is mid to late summer when I start seeing a few SHB.
This may be an interesting year for SHB. Thankfully, almost all the hives are strong, with very few weak hives. Winter losses on big hives is about 5% and nuc losses are about 10%.
