Diary Wasp Sting

Maybe you are more sensitive to wasp venom than you think and it might have been responsible for your poor sleep last night. Just an

Could be. Don't know. I wondered. The previous night was not a whole lot better.

I have been stung more by wasps this fall than any season I remember! They swell and itch and itch for days after the sight is impossible to find. Bees stings hurt but not as bad as most of the wasp stings and I can't remember where I got them in an hour mostly. The ear and nose remain as points that swell up pretty good. My bees seem to have the upper hands on the wasps. Very few around my hives except for the nucs I am feeding regularly and spilling by.

I've been finding dead yellow jackets in front of my hives. I've watched a couple try to enter and immediately get attacked by bees and get hurt real bad that they don't fly away, just crawl around on the ground. In 32 years we have never had yellow jackets out here, then a few years ago a junk hauler brought in wrecked cars that must have had some in. Now we can't get rid of them.

At this time of year, wasps and hornets are refugees. They have no home and are looking for food and shelter. Their paper nests have disintegrated and they are out on their own. You'll find them huddled together in stacks of supers or any place they can find refuge.
