Three frame splits

Unread post by Vance G »

I apparently suffered from an embarrassment of riches and made my version of three, three frame splits in a deep with a screened bottom were too well endowed with capped brood and I quickly realized they were going to blow out of them in no time as soon as the new queens got laying. This coupled with a very good spring flow caused me to transfer them to five frame nucs pretty rapidly.

I warn newbies about messing with hives with newly installed queens and I just was the object lesson. A good number of the disturbed splits did in their new queens apparently as they are now raising emergency cells. Why can't this beekeeping thing be boringly the same year after year!

The destination for these splits is divided deeps where they get a queen excluder and a honey super placed above. THis will be the second year of that experiment which seems to be going well except for my overmanagement.
