Put an old metal washtub with water on a turkey fryer or fire. Put the metal excluders in. The hot/boiling water melts the wax and propolis off.

You can also use a propane torch to clean metal excluders. Please note that the really old metal excluders used lead for solder and a torch will melt the lead and the excluders will fall apart. This type was the old wood bound metal excluders.

Too cold now but I put a stack of them in my wax melter both metal and plastic and in a couple days they are just fine. hadn't thought of the heat gun and I finally got the wax off my turkey fryer! It mostly is for dissoloving sugar in 2:1 syrup.
